Job Description The Student Financial Services Counselor plays a critical role insupporting the recruitment, advising, retention, and financialoperations of the institution. These contributions are achieved byproviding comprehensive financial aid and student accounts serviceto students and families. Professionals occupying this position areexpected to be proficient in the best practices associated with theadministration, reporting, and compliance parameters required bystate, federal, and institutional financial assistanceorganizations. Acting as a comprehensive resource to current andprospective graduate, undergraduate, and professional developmentstudents, Student Financial Services Counselor act as the primaryservice provider for all financial aid and student accountcounseling. The professional scope for this position includes thecapacity to provide guidance on aid eligibility, satisfactoryacademic progress, student lending/repayment options, institutionalpayment plans, aid related tax exposure, student employment andhealth insurance compliance. Key Responsibilities Support the administration, processing, and assessment ofmultiple financial aid vehicles including federal, state, andinstitutionally sponsored aid programs for assigned studentcaseload. Provide financial assistance and payment counseling to currentand prospective students/ families. Address questions regarding alldimensions of aid eligibility, professional judgement parameters,aid renewals, appeals, federal/private loans, externalscholarships, student employment and alternative paymentoptions. Ensure compliance with institutional, federal and statefinancial aid regulations, including Title IV policies andprocedures. Participate in internal and external auditprocess. Advise and monitor payment plans, coordinate with students onoutstanding balances. Assist in the development, implementation andexecution of policies for collections, account holds, and financialappeals. Oversee student billing, tuition payments, refunds, andaccount reconciliations. Participate in current and prospective student programing.Represent and promote the full scope of student financial servicesat virtual and in-person events. Programs include financialwellness days, FAFSA completion events, webinars, advising fairs,and open house experiences. Assume operational leadership roles over designated projectsand functions. These focus areas are determined by the AssociateVice President for Student Financial Services and may include auditprep, compliance, payment plans, collections, third party payments,outside scholarships, state affiliations, federal compliance,veteran benefits, and graduate programs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, businessadministration, higher education administration, or a related field(Master’s preferred). 1-3+ years of experience in student accounts, financial aid, orrelated financial services in higher education. Strong knowledge of federal and state financial aidregulations, as well as student accounts policies. Commitment to participate and engage in ongoing professionaldevelopment including attendance and presentation opportunitiesavailable within state, regional and national professionalorganizations. Experience with student information systems (e.g., Banner,Flywire, Campus Logic, Slate, Workday) and financial aid/loanportals. Excellent, detail-oriented communication, problem-solving, andcustomer service skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and handlesensitive financial matters with discretion.
