Access Specialist I | Patient Registration

Join a dynamic healthcare team in the Pacific Northwest region as a Patient Access Specialist I, where your role is vital in delivering compassionate and efficient service to patients throughout their care journey. This position focuses on accurate patient scheduling, registration, and financial support to ensure a seamless experience.

Job Summary

As a Patient Access Specialist I, you will be responsible for registering patients using specialized software, verifying insurance and benefits, and managing referrals and pre-authorizations. You will conduct registration interviews, handle point-of-service collections including co-pays and balances, and maintain daily cash drawer operations. Your communication skills will be essential as you operate a multi-line phone system, respond to patient inquiries, and relay information to staff promptly and professionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and register patients accurately, ensuring data integrity including patient identification and insurance verification.
  • Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for services.
  • Collect patient financial responsibilities at point of service and manage cash drawer.
  • Operate multi-line telephone system to manage incoming calls efficiently.
  • Provide excellent customer service, maintaining patient comfort, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Complete daily administrative tasks, including mail processing and workflow improvement projects.
  • Adapt to changing work environments and priorities while supporting team collaboration.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with insurance verification systems and strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Flexibility to adapt to workload changes and work collaboratively in a team setting.
