Optical Technician

Optical TechnicianTechnician with optical experience working in a Central Office environment. Tasks require technician to be able to install optical equipment in a rack, have excellent cable management skills, and be considered a Level 4 or higher skilled tester. Technician must have knowledge of and experience with intermediate and advanced building and construction of product hardware architecture at the customer site. Ability to lead, supervise and direct assignments to meet delivery commitment to customer.Responsibilities include:Install Ciena hardware as required on customer sites and perform preliminary testing of associated hardware to support successful job completion with high Ciena product families.Inventory the hardware and job related material.Physically build the product following the hardware job specifications and drawings working independently.Lead, supervise and direct assignments.Understand and use established safety practices.Understand quality requirements and can implement quality control processes.Perform power verification and preliminary hardware testing of out of service equipment (OOS).Read and stay current on installation documentation.Read and interpret engineering specs, prints, and drawings.Demonstrate proper use of tools.Perform all physical and mechanical installation activities.Maintain on-site job records and administration tracking.Perform power and grounding installations on equipment and small power plants.Perform power verification and power-up of equipment.Plan, manage logistics and execute physical installation of hardware on one or multiple sites.Perform preliminary hardware testing in an out of service environment.Physically lift a minimum of 25 pounds (12 kilos).Conduct work assignments, communicate, dress, and assist customer in a professional manner.Basic Qualifications:High School degreeAssociate degree or bachelor's degree preferredMinimum of 2 years' experience working with Ciena Optical equipmentHands on experience installing Ciena 6500 equipmentHands on experience testing Ciena 6500 equipmentIs considered a level 3 or 4 installer and/or testerKnowledge working in central office environmentsGood Understanding of Telcordia installation standardsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Minimum 5 years Data Center/PoP/CO installation experienceGood mechanical aptitudeGood knowledge of basic power toolsAbility to adapt to various work environmentsGood knowledge of optical routing equipment installationsGood knowledge of fiber optic cable installation & testing practicesGood knowledge of AC/DC powerGood knowledge of infrastructure installation work (equipment racks, cable racks and fiber duct etc.)
