Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Profession: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Scientist Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Evening Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours, starting at 1 PM, with potential extension to 10 PM Experience: Minimum of two years in all aspects of the clinical laboratory License: Currently licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the State of California Certifications: None specified Must-Have: - EPIC experience required - Ability to answer phones professionally - Ability to assist co-workers when needed - Ability to handle stressful work situations - Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task - Good communication and diplomatic skills - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Description: This position involves performing laboratory analysis on clinical specimens using established laboratory procedures. The individual will review and evaluate quality controls, specimen integrity, and instrumentation to ensure that accurate results are reported. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will accommodate STAT orders and consistently report within one hour or as soon as available. Critical values and critical test results must be communicated to providers within 60 minutes of being available. All required documentation must be completed accurately. Assisting in ensuring that all lab procedures and safety protocols are followed is essential. The individual must alert the supervisor when abnormalities or irregularities in tests are encountered, while maintaining workload productivity. The position requires support in ensuring departmental preparedness for regulatory surveys. Back-up assistance for laboratory assistants may involve obtaining venous and arterial blood samples using aseptic techniques. It is necessary to check for patient identification using at least two identifiers before drawing a sample. The individual must maintain validation and accuracy of results by checking quality control and properly maintaining instruments. Communication with vendors regarding mechanical problems is required as well as maintaining adequate levels of reagents, calibrators, controls, and supplies. Compliance with licensing, certification, and educational requirements as per regulatory agencies is expected. Supervision of laboratory assistants and support for the Director of Laboratory Services, as assigned, is part of the role. Verification of the appropriate specimen being analyzed against patient test orders is crucial. The completion of test order entry must be accurate. Willingness to perform additional duties and innovations as assigned is necessary.
