HVAC Technician- 40 Hours 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM

Job Description Required shift: 7:00AM–3:30PM, Monday–Friday, occasional weekends. Responsibilities Maintenance and operation of steam power generation to provide heat and power equipment throughout the hospital. Maintains high‑pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment such as air‑conditioner chillers, air compressors, and generators. Performs routine HVAC maintenance – air filter changes, greasing bearings, cleaning mechanical rooms. Records and monitors boiler operation hours, pressure, temperature and fuel consumption. Observes functioning of steam, vacuum and water systems, indicating measures to determine operating condition. Makes adjustments and repairs, using judgment in emergency situations. Oversees operation of three centrifugal air‑conditioning units, providing chilled water to hospital as needed. Responds to trouble calls throughout the hospital, taking readings and temperatures of air‑conditioning and air‑handling equipment. Assumes full responsibility of all plant operations during the assigned shift. Maintains a clean, orderly work area and observes standard safety rules and regulations. Operates a computerized energy management system and performs duties of HVAC mechanic. Minimum Qualifications High‑school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Boiler Operation School (nine‑month program) preferred. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) training preferred. Three months of on‑the‑job training in hospital plant systems required. Considerable experience with high‑pressure boilers, steam engines, compressors and auxiliary equipment preferred. Familiarity with steam fitting and plumbing methods through practical experience. Licenses & Certifications Third‑Class Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety. Massachusetts Refrigeration License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Strong knowledge of high‑pressure boiler operations, steam engines, compressors and auxiliary equipment. Understanding of steam fitting, plumbing methods, and HVAC systems. Ability to monitor, troubleshoot and maintain hospital plant systems. Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to boiler and refrigeration systems. Environmental and Social Qualifications Working conditions include exposure to heat, steam, hot water, oil and grease, often under adverse conditions. Must be able to see gauges/display, hear alarms and manipulate dials 100% of the time. Exposure to power tools and heavy equipment 100% of the time. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend and climb stairs. Compensation Pay Range: $30.00 – $41.00 per hour. Actual compensation may exceed the base hourly rate based on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime and other applicable factors.
