Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

This position involves functioning both as a caregiver and a care manager. As a caregiver, the Registered Nurse (RN) will assume responsibility for a group of patients during designated time frames while implementing the Nursing Process. In the care manager role, the RN will direct and oversee the work of other caregivers through delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual will be expected to understand the operations of Patient Care Services and make informed decisions when situations require intervention.

Essential Functions

• Conduct comprehensive assessment and data collection focusing on physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
• Implement care with professionalism and adherence to predetermined procedures, policies, and care plans.
• Identify patient and significant other learning needs, assess readiness for learning, and facilitate patient education per policy.
• Document patient care in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to patient and family rights, ensuring equitable care for all individuals regardless of background or circumstances.
• Effectively delegate patient care activities and supervise assigned staff.
• Organize and prioritize tasks utilizing sound critical thinking skills.
• May function as a Charge Nurse, coordinating patient assignments and assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Maintain professional development through workshops and affiliations to stay current with industry trends.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including infection control and emergency procedures.
• Conduct interactions with team members and support groups in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Uphold professional conduct and maintain appropriate personal appearance in line with job requirements.
• Handle additional responsibilities as required by management to meet organizational standards.

Work Environment

This position reports to the Nursing Department Director, House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and other designated supervisory staff, and involves close collaboration with patients, physicians, and clinical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Education & Experience

• Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• License: Current Washington State RN Licensure.
• Certification: Healthcare Provider (HCP) Level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Experience: Acute care nursing experience preferred; a minimum of one year preferred for specialty nursing departments.

• Proficiency in using required medical equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly requires standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, maneuver equipment, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
• Ability to perform CPR and assist in lifting/pushing patients as needed.
• Strong mental acuity needed for assessment and decision-making in patient care.
• Good vision is required to observe and document patient conditions accurately.
• Ability to manage emotional demands associated with high-stress situations.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to exchange information with all stakeholders.

Additional Certifications

• Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for all RNs working in maternity services within orientation period.
• ACLS certification to be obtained within the initial six months of hire.
• Completion of STABLE course within six months of orientation is optional.
• AWHONN's Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course to be completed within three months of L&D training.
• Preferred certification in specialty nursing.
