Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

An Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) provides rapid, high-quality nursing care to patients experiencing acute illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening emergencies. The ER RN works in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing patient needs through triage, assessment, intervention, stabilization, and ongoing evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform rapid and comprehensive patient assessments and determine appropriate priorities of care.
• Triage patients according to the severity and urgency of their conditions.
• Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, neurological status, and changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments as ordered.
• Initiate and maintain intravenous access and obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing.
• Assist with emergency procedures, including CPR, trauma resuscitation, intubation, wound care, and other lifesaving interventions.
• Operate and monitor emergency equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, and ventilators.
• Recognize signs of patient deterioration and promptly initiate appropriate interventions.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Provide care for patients with medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, psychiatric, pediatric, and trauma-related emergencies.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Follow infection-control procedures, medication-safety practices, and hospital policies.
• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining safety and confidentiality.
• Participate in emergency preparedness, quality-improvement initiatives, and continuing education.

Qualifications:

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification may be preferred or required.
• Previous emergency department, critical care, or acute-care nursing experience preferred.
