A Day in the Life

Cranial and Spinal Technologies develops products and therapies for neurosurgical and spinal procedures, supporting physicians with technologies that improve patient outcomes. This technical writing function is responsible for developing and maintaining Instructions for Use (IFU) and related product documentation for regulated medical devices throughout the product lifecycle. The role partners closely with Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and other cross-functional teams to ensure documentation is accurate, compliant, and available to global users.

This position is based onsite in Lafayette, Colorado. Limited domestic and international travel may be required, with an expected travel commitment of less than 10%.

In this role, you will develop, maintain, and manage product documentation for medical device products, including Instructions for Use (IFU), system manuals, quick reference guides, technical bulletins, and other end-user materials. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather technical information, translate complex concepts into clear documentation, support document control and release processes, and coordinate translation activities for global markets.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop, update, and maintain IFU, manuals, quick reference guides, package inserts, technical bulletins, and other product documentation.
• Gather technical content through collaboration with Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and subject matter experts.
• Create documentation using Adobe FrameMaker and structured authoring tools to support regulated medical device products.
• Manage document version control, archival activities, and documentation release processes within Product Lifecycle Management systems.
• Coordinate translation projects, including preparation, tracking, review, and finalization of multilingual documentation.
• Review and edit documentation for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and compliance with established standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to documentation processes, workflows, and content management practices.
• Provide documentation guidance and support to cross-functional stakeholders and, as needed, mentor less experienced writers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Technical Science, English, Journalism, or related writing discipline with 2+ years of technical writing or technical editing experience.
• Experience developing technical documentation in a technical publications or regulated environment.
• Advanced experience with Adobe FrameMaker.
• Experience with Structured Authoring, XML, and content management systems.
• Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, vector graphics software, HTML, and document publishing tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical writing experience in the medical device industry.
• Experience supporting scientific, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
• Experience with Vasont Content Management System (CMS).
• Experience developing online help systems or digital user documentation.
• Experience managing professional translation projects for global product documentation.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$68,000.00 - $102,000.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range applies across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and certain locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
