The Nuclear Medicine Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the nuclear medicine equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans. 20 Work Shift Job Description The Nuclear Medicine Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the nuclear medicine equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans. Administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications to obtain diagnostic images and/or provides therapy as ordered by physician. Performs quality care to pediatric through adult patients using professional and ethical judgment along with critical thinking in performing duties. Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic nuclear medicine testing, including general studies, cardiac studies, and the computer interactions related with these studies. Uses sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation. Prepares and administers radioactive chemical compounds known as radiopharmaceuticals. Knowledgeable in IV placement to avoid extravasations of radiopharmaceuticals. Performs computer processing and image enhancement. Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation. Provides excellent patient care. Demonstrates excellent customer service.
Completion of a formal two-year allied health AMA approved school or completion of formal nuclear medicine program. Must be a certified nuclear medicine technologist (CNMT) or registered technologist (RT(N)) with a B.S. or B.A. preferred. Should have acquired skills from CAHEA approved program and preferably, one- or two-years' experience in a similar position. Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Proactively maintains and renews ARRT, state license, BLS, PPD, respirator fit test, and POC training. Additional Job Description Education: Graduate of an ARRT or NMTCB recognized Nuclear Medicine Program required. Work Experience: 0-2 years in Radiologic experienceMust be a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) from the NMTCB or Registered Technologist (RT (N)) from ARRT or registry eligible. Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
