Position Description: About the RoleAt Bronx Arts, we see teaching as an art form. The Director of Curriculum & Instruction is a key member of the school’s leadership team, responsible for driving the quality of teaching and learning across the building.Reporting to the Principal, this role leads curriculum development and implementation while providing ongoing feedback, modeling, and coaching to teachers. The Director ensures that instruction is rigorous, aligned, and consistently executed across classrooms.This role also plays a critical part in managing the day-to-day instructional life of the building—maintaining a strong presence in classrooms, supporting staff, and ensuring systems are implemented with fidelity.Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership:Provide regular, high-quality feedback to teachers through classroom observationsCoach teachers through planning, instruction, and classroom cultureModel strong instructional practices through demonstration lessons and co-teachingEnsure consistent, high-quality instruction across all classroomsCurriculum & Planning:Lead the development, revision, and implementation of curriculum aligned to NYS standardsReview and monitor lesson plans and weekly instructional overviewsEnsure curriculum is rigorous, coherent, and reflects Bronx Arts’ instructional visionSupport arts integration and experiential learning across content areasData & Assessment:Lead the development and implementation of assessment systemsAnalyze student data and lead data-driven conversations with teachers and teamsEnsure instructional decisions are grounded in student performance and outcomesProfessional Development:Plan and lead weekly faculty meetings and professional development sessionsDevelop and manage the school’s professional development calendarBuild teacher capacity through targeted coaching and trainingOversee and support Instructional Coaches in their work with teachersSchoolwide Leadership & Building Management:Maintain a strong, visible presence across classrooms and throughout the buildingSupport the day-to-day instructional operations of the schoolEnsure systems, expectations, and instructional priorities are implemented consistentlyPartner closely with the Principal and Executive Director on school wide initiativesStaff Development & Hiring:Support recruitment, selection, and retention of high-quality instructional staffParticipate in interviews and make hiring recommendationsFoster a strong, collaborative, high-expectations professional cultureWhat We’re Looking ForA highly effective educator with a strong track record of improving student outcomesStrong instructional leader with deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessmentSkilled coach who can provide clear, direct, and actionable feedback to teachersExcellent writer and communicatorStrong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive decision-makingOrganized, detail-oriented, and systems- drivenCollaborative leader who builds strong, positive team culturePassion for the arts and belief in creativity as a driver of student successQualificationsBachelor ’s degree required; Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field preferredNew York State Teaching Certification requiredMinimum of 8 years of teaching experience required (leadership experience strongly preferred)Experience in an urban school setting preferredCompensation$100,000 to $110,000Compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience.
