Kitchen Porter

The Good Fork Pub is seeking a dependable and hardworking Porter to join our kitchen team in Red Hook, Brooklyn .

We are looking for someone who works cleanly, communicates clearly, and understands the importance of maintaining consistent dish flow, sanitation, and organization throughout service.

This is a hands-on position that includes dishwashing, nightly cleaning, trash and recycling removal, equipment maintenance, deep-cleaning projects, and supporting the kitchen team wherever needed.

The right candidate takes pride in maintaining a clean kitchen, works with urgency, and understands that smooth service depends on the dish area remaining organized and functional throughout the shift.

Maintain a steady and organized flow of dishes throughout service.

Wash and organize kitchen dishes, cookware, utensils, hotel pans, bar glassware, and silverware.

Return clean dishes, cookware, and equipment to their proper storage areas promptly.

Keep the dish station clean, organized, and functional throughout the shift.

Maintain organization of the dish area, linen storage, shelving, chemical storage, and trash and recycling areas.

Fully clean, sanitize, and reset the dish station at the end of each night.

Ensure the Prep Cook and Chef arrive to a clean and organized workstation.

Clean and reset the downstairs prep area daily.

Clean and maintain the dish machine according to kitchen standards.

Immediately notify the Chef or Lead Line Cook of chemical shortages, equipment problems, leaks, or other maintenance concerns.

Remove trash and recycling daily according to restaurant procedures.

Keep the cardboard area organized with support from the kitchen team.

Bundle and remove cardboard every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Complete assigned side work and deep-cleaning projects, including but not limited to:

• Hood vents

• Floors and drains

• Shelving and storage areas

• Walls and detail cleaning

• Kitchen equipment

• Other assigned cleaning projects

Follow all sanitation, chemical-handling, food-safety, and workplace-safety procedures.

Assist cooks, prep staff, and kitchen leadership as needed to support smooth daily operations.

Previous restaurant, porter, dishwasher, or kitchen experience is preferred.

Ability to maintain urgency and organization during busy service.

Ability to follow instructions and complete cleaning responsibilities thoroughly.

Reliable, punctual, and prepared to work when scheduled.

Comfortable receiving direction from the Chef and Lead Line Cook.

Ability to communicate equipment problems, chemical shortages, or safety concerns immediately.

Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail.

Ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented kitchen environment.

Arrive on time and prepared for each shift.

Maintain urgency, awareness, and professionalism throughout the shift.

Keep the dish area clean and under control during service.

Complete assigned opening, closing, and deep-cleaning responsibilities consistently.

Work cleanly, safely, and efficiently.

Communicate clearly with kitchen leadership and coworkers.

Handle dishes, equipment, chemicals, trash, and recycling safely.

Maintain reliability and support a respectful kitchen environment.

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.

Ability to work around water, heat, steam, cleaning chemicals, sharp equipment, and hot surfaces.

Ability to work efficiently in a hot, wet, and fast-paced professional kitchen environment.

Position: Part-Time Porter / Dishwasher
Reports To: Chef and Lead Line Cook
Schedule: Evening and weekend availability required
Compensation: $16-$19 per hour, based on experience
Expected Hours: Approximately 25 hours per week
