Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Days, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Aug 17, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma unit position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience and trach/vent competency. Details Acute care stepdown unit (5N Neuro Trauma/PCU) in a Level II Trauma hospital setting 28-bed unit with a neuro and trauma focus, including strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA post-procedure care, endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, dementia, traumatic ortho injuries, hematomas, bleeds, falls on thinners, and farm/MVA accidents Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6, dependent on acuity; Nurse aide support available (Days 1:9, Nights 1:12) RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin RT equipment on unit includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring Central telemetry monitoring is located in a separate area EMR is Cerner (transitioning to Epic) 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) required Typically 2–3 holidays required during winter season, otherwise every other holiday No call or standby requirements Floating required to sister MS units across 6 specialties, including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance 13-week contract Requirements Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), must be active at time of consideration Minimum 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience required Experience in a relevant setting within the last 1 year is required Drip titration experience required Trach and vent experience strongly preferred; willingness to train on vents is acceptable if candidate is open to learning Two professional references required: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years of relevant specialty experience Additional Information Provide nursing care to a complex neuro and trauma patient population, including titrating drips and managing patients on tracheostomies and ventilators Charge nurses are present; night charge takes a full patient team and day charge takes a smaller assignment Orientation consists of 1 general orientation shift and 1 shift with a preceptor Any solid color scrubs are acceptable First-time travelers are welcome to apply Candidates who have previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the travel pay rate American Traveler Job ID P-733387.
