Qualifications: Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and/or Audiology Speech-Language Pathology License from the Department of Health Professions, Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology

Terms Of Employment: 10 month contract, Support Services Salary Scale as approved by the School Board.

Title: Speech And Language Pathologist

Reports To: School Principal, Director of Office of Support Services

Supervises: N/A

Job Goal: The Speech-Language Pathologist will assist with the identification of children with speech-language impairment, and referral for medical or other professional attention. Also provides intervention for students individually and/or in groups appropriate to age and learning needs.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Provide a therapeutic program to meet the needs of children who have speech, language, and hearing impairments.

2. Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments including deafness.

3. Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language fluency for referred students.

4. Provide screening to identify children with speech and language impairments per regulatory requirements.

5. Assist in proper referrals of children to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

7. Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement appropriate intervention strategies in the classroom.

8. Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.

9. Provide in-service education to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement and the linguistic foundations of the curriculum.

10. Develop IEPs, document and report student progress as required by regulations, and keep thorough ongoing records for the provision of services.

11. Participate in required activities for Medicaid billings.

12. Maintain a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and physicians.

13. Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.

14. Perform other duties as assigned and required.

Physical Requirements: Positions that are itinerant will involve frequent traveling between schools and will also involve periodic transporting of audiometers.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Support Services in accordance with the School Board's Specialist Performance Evaluation System.
