Police Officer

Position Overview Act 120 Certified Police Officer for Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department. This role protects and serves more than 100,000 students, employees and visitors across 22 campuses in Pennsylvania, delivering law‑enforcement services with full police authority. Key Responsibilities Protect life and property and preserve peace and good order of the community. Enhance positive community engagement initiatives. Enforce laws, university policies and procedures, and conduct public safety work. Perform investigative work, including patrol, education, inspection and deterrence of illegal, unsafe or undesirable activity. Enforce National, Federal, State and local laws and university regulations through investigation, apprehension and prosecution of violators. Required Qualifications and Experience High school diploma or equivalent and up to one year of relevant experience. Act 120 Certification from the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC); or enrollment in the act 120 police academy, or ability to obtain certification during the hiring process. Skills to enhance public respect for law enforcement and the university with courteous, devoted and ethical service. Capacity to work cooperatively with various levels of faculty, staff, students and outside agencies. Ability to provide effective, honest, credible testimony at court hearings. Outstanding customer service orientation; excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent analytical, judgment, ethical decision-making and organizational skills. Ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds and respect constitutional rights of all people. Capability to uphold an excellent standard of conduct at all times, abiding by laws, regulations and policies. Additional Requirements U.S. citizenship; must be at least 21 years of age on or before the start date. Successful background investigation, BPAD scenario‑based evaluation, and fingerprint background check. Completion of all MPOETC requirements if not currently certified or eligible for certification. PA state police criminal background check, PA child abuse history clearance, and federal (FBI) fingerprint criminal background check. Valid driver’s license and completion of motor vehicle records check. Successful completion of credit history check. Salary and Benefits Starting contractual base salary is $69,368.
