Role Overview

The mission of the CFO is to drive the company’s financial strategy and long-term value creation by aligning financial planning, risk management, and capital allocation with business objectives. The CFO is a strategic partner to the Managing Shareholder and the executive leadership team, not solely a steward of the books. This leader owns the financial architecture of the business — the systems, the forecasting discipline, the capital decisions, and the reporting that gives leadership a clear and honest view of performance. The CFO translates financial insight into decisions that improve profitability, protect the organization from risk, and position it for sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the company’s financial strategy aligned with business goals.
• Translate corporate strategy into financial targets, operating budgets, and measurable performance goals across business units.
• Establish the financial planning calendar and cadence — annual budget, rolling forecast, and periodic re-forecasts — and hold leaders accountable to it.
• Optimize investment decisions, funding strategy, and resource allocation.
• Evaluate investment opportunities, new service lines, technology spend, and acquisitions using consistent, well-defined return criteria.
• Oversee financial risks, forecasting, and long-term sustainability.
• Maintain cash flow forecasting and working capital management that keeps the business solvent and flexible through variable conditions.
• Build and maintain the internal control environment, ensuring compliance with GAAP, tax, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Lead scenario and sensitivity planning so the leadership team understands the downside cases as clearly as the base case.
• Oversee the annual audit, tax filings, and relationships with external accountants, auditors, and advisors.
• Partner with the Managing Shareholder and leadership team to drive growth and performance.
• Partner with revenue and operations leaders on pricing, margin management, utilization, and productivity.
• Bring financial rigor to compensation design, incentive plans, and headcount planning in partnership with People/HR leadership.
• Build the finance function itself — hire, develop, and retain a team capable of supporting the company at its next stage of scale.
• Communicate financial performance and strategy to Shareholders and Practice Line leaders.
• Present financial results and forward-looking strategy in terms non-financial stakeholders can act on.
• Manage relationships with lenders, investors, auditors, and other external financial partners.
• Ensure transparency and consistency in how financial performance is communicated across the organization.
• Accounting & Financial Systems, Processes & Technology: Ability to manage, optimize, and leverage accounting systems, processes, and technology to ensure accurate, efficient, and scalable financial operations.
• Team Leadership: Ability to lead, develop, and align a team to achieve high performance by setting clear expectations, driving accountability, and fostering a strong, collaborative team environment.
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions to support decision-making.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to anticipate future opportunities and challenges, connect actions to long-term goals, and develop plans that drive sustainable business success.
• Financial Risk Management: Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate financial and compliance risks while ensuring appropriate controls and governance are in place.

Role Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA and/or Masters degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including 5+ years at the CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent executive level.
• Background in M&A, integration, or other transaction work.
• Background in multi-entity complexity.
• Demonstrated ownership of financial strategy, forecasting, and capital allocation for an organization of comparable scale and complexity.
• Experience building and leading finance teams, including hiring, development, and succession.
• Experience in implementing or upgrading ERP, financial reporting, or business intelligence systems.
• Proven ability to present financial information credibly to boards, ownership groups, and non-financial audiences.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, and audit and tax processes.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to travel up to 10% for executive leadership meetings.
• Ability to work mostly in-office.
• Preferred but not required: prior experience working in financial services or at a consulting firm.
