Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising a maintenance shop under the umbrella responsibility of a Maintenance Manager. The role involves supervising a team of technicians (mechanics) responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of fleet and machinery that support a post‑collection facility, as well as equipment that services the container shop. The supervisor directs technicians to ensure all repairs/maintenance are performed in compliance with Company safety, compliance standards, and federal and state regulations. The position plans and schedules repair work for the work group to ensure that all work is done safely and timely, reducing lost productivity. Principal Responsibilities Provide direction to A, B, and C level technicians and lead technicians in the work group to ensure safe, efficient, and timely repair and maintenance work. Monitor operational performance and efficiency, taking action to redirect activities when necessary. Report performance to management and recommend process or programmatic changes for improvement. Supervise technicians in the maintenance shop, conduct daily shop huddles and fleet walks, and coach, counsel, and train technicians on performance and corrective action. Participate in hiring/termination decisions in concert with Human Resources and management, conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and recommend merit increases, promotions, and job changes. Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure work is completed per Company safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations; follow up where appropriate. Identify training opportunities and document issues, then discuss corrective action with technicians. Conduct quality control inspections, track issues and resolution to ensure all work is properly completed per safety and compliance procedures and regulations. Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and road‑test vehicles to determine necessary repairs. Oversee maintenance shop inventory control system, ensuring appropriate equipment and parts levels and staying within budget. Review and approve expenses within the approval level; refer larger expenses or major repairs to the manager as appropriate. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to perform preventive and repair maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles. Manage administrative matters for the team, including payroll, maintenance of employee records, recording all maintenance in Dossier Maintenance Software, preparing and submitting budgets, and setting departmental goals aligned with division leadership objectives. Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications: T3 Drive; T4 Brake; T5 Suspension and Steering; T6 Electrical/Electronic; T7 HVAC Systems; ASE T2 Diesel Engine; ASE T Master Certified. Minimum Requirements 3 years of experience in maintenance working with heavy equipment. 1 year of supervisory experience in a lead technician role, supervisor, or other management role requiring a thorough knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations. Pay Range The pay range for this position is $78,900.00 to $108,450.00, which reflects the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired.
