This position will be in the Admitting Department.This role will require the need to work either 12-hour shift - 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM with the flexibility to work weekends.Primary Responsibilities:Maintains up-to-date knowledge of specific registration requirements for all areas, including but not limited to: Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation unitsEnsures complete, accurate and timely entry of demographic information into the ADT system at the time of registrationProperly identifies the patient to ensure medical record numbers are not duplicatedResponsible for reviewing assigned accounts to ensure accuracy and required documentation is obtained and completeMeet CMS billing requirements for the completion of the MSP, issuance of the Important Message from Medicare, issuance of the Observation Notice, and other requirements, as applicable and documenting completion within the hospital's information system for regulatory compliance and audit purposesCollects and enters required data into the ADT system with emphasis on accuracy of demographic and financial information in order to ensure appropriate reimbursementCarefully reviews all information entered in ADT on pre-registered accounts. Verifies all information with patient at time of registration; corrects any errors identifiedIdentify all forms requiring patient/guarantor signature and obtain signaturesEnsures all required documents are scanned into the appropriate system(s)Identifies all appropriate printed material hand-outs for the patient and provides them to the patient/guarantor (Patient Rights and Responsibilities, HIPAA Privacy Act notification, Advance Directive, etc.)Follows 'downtime' procedures by manually entering patient information; identifying patient's MRN in the MPI database, assigning a financial number; and, accurately entering all information when the ADT system is liveFollows EMTALA-compliant registration steps for both Emergency Department and Labor and Delivery areasAssesses self-pay patients for presumptive eligibility and when appropriate, initiates the processAs patients require admissions, Transfers and or Discharges at the facility location. With the understanding of teamwork and support that may require modification to meet those needsSupports clinical bed management duties by ensuring system updates have been made in required IT systems for Admits, Transfers and Discharges, meeting 5-minute performance standardsCorrects registration edits and demographic updates as required when changing patient statusConduct Insurance Eligibility / Benefit Verification via web-based tools and as necessary by phoneSupports registration activities by printing necessary documentation (i.e., face sheets, patient armbands, and etc.), coordinating production with the facility caring for the patientProvides fax, phone, or electronic notification to payers of patient admissions and upgradesIdentifies issues in need of escalation to corporate Financial Clearance staff and / or facility financial specialists (i.e., Financial Clearance and / or Financial Counseling staff)Maintains up-to-date knowledge of specific registration requirements for all areas, including Inpatient and Outpatient Registration ServicesEnsures complete, accurate and timely entry of demographic information into the ADT system at the time of registration. Communicates with the facility or providers when necessary to clarify or obtain additional patient informationWhen necessary, escalate accounts to appropriate facility Patient Registration leadership staffComplies with HIPPA, PHI and its implications, ABN, MSP, EMTALA, etc. and other regulations which affect the registration processYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:High School Diploma/GED3+ years of experience working in a hospital Patient Registration department, physician office setting, healthcare insurance company, revenue cycle vendor, and/or other revenue cycle related role3+ years of experience with insurance - Medicare Medi-Cal, and Commercial1+ years of experience in requesting and processing financial payments1+ years of experience working in medical terminologyAdvanced level of computer proficiencyAbility to work on-site at our Admitting Department at 1420 S Central Ave., Glendale CA 91204Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of charity care programs as well as the various government and non-government programsExperience with MS4 and CernerBilingual fluency (Armenian and Spanish)Strong knowledge of both government and commercial insurancesSoft Skill:Thorough understanding of insurance policies and procedures**PLEASE NOTE** The sign-on bonus is only available to external candidates.
