TravelNurseSource is working with Cynet Health to find a qualified Psych RN in Bangor, Maine, 04401!

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7P-7A Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required. Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred. License: Must hold a valid state nursing license. Certifications: BLS required. MOAB will be obtained on-site as part of orientation. Must-Have: - De-escalation experience. - Experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are not used). - Comfort with running groups and documentation. Description: Immediate start is needed. Simplified interviews will take place followed by manager approval. The unit consists of an acute inpatient facility that contracts with an emergency room nearby. All patients come from the emergency department and are medically cleared. It is not typical to have lines, drains, tubes, etc. present. Patients may be admitted voluntarily or involuntarily. The pediatric patient age range is from 5 to 18 years old. Common pediatric diagnoses include but are not limited to Eating Disorders, Depression, Suicidal Ideation, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Gender Dysphoria. Adult patients are 18 years and older and may commonly present with conditions such as Schizophrenia, Major Depressive Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder. Eating Disorders, Suicidal Ideation, and Anxiety may also be seen in adult patients. The facility does not handle forensic patients or inmates. The facility is locked but does not hold patients under arrest. Seclusion rooms are available and can be used when necessary. Occasionally, patients with Substance Use Disorders or those detoxing may be encountered, but they must be medically cleared. The staff provides traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios are RN Day 1:5-6 and Night 1:13 with resource support. Psych Tech support during the day includes 6 techs for pediatrics and 2 techs for adults. Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned but are not mandatory. Support on the unit includes a nurse supervisor available evenings and weekends, and a nurse manager who is open to feedback. A house administrator is present overnight and on weekends. A nurse practitioner is on-site until 1600 and available on-call overnight. Daily rounds are conducted by a psychiatrist who is on call during specified hours. An occupational therapist is available daily from 0800 to 1630. Security is present on-site but will not respond to patient escalations. All staff, including techs and nurses, will respond to patient escalations. The charting system used is Cerner and medication management is via Pyxis. Travelers may float between all units, including adults and pediatrics. If a traveler is uncomfortable floating to pediatrics, manager approval will be required. Travelers will sign up for weekend shifts every other rotation. There is an expectation to work holidays in a rotation. Approval for time off may allow for up to 7 days, with adjustments made as necessary. Travelers may be assigned shifts if they do not sign up during the designated time. Scrub colors should be any solid color that is professional. Heavy snow conditions are expected during winter months. In the event of a patient escalation, there is a designated code leader responsible for assigning roles to the staff while they work to de-escalate the situation. Travelers may take on the role of code leader but should speak up if more practice is needed with de-escalations. Ongoing scenario-based training is available every other week for practicing these skills.
