The Primary Counselor provides direct client care within a structured behavioral health program, coordinating individual and group counseling sessions, building therapeutic rapport, and ensuring all services align with OASAS guidelines. This role supports clients with diverse and complex needs, manages a defined caseload, and documents all interactions in the electronic medical record system. The position offers strong clinical experience for licensure or career growth and the opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned client caseload in accordance with OASAS guidelines and program policies.
• Coordinate and facilitate individual and group counseling sessions to support client treatment goals.
• Build and maintain strong therapeutic rapport with clients, providing consistent support and guidance.
• Document all client interactions, services, and progress accurately and promptly in the EMR system.
• Collect urine samples in accordance with program protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Adhere to OASAS regulations and ensure compliance with all licensing and credentialing standards.
• Coordinate care with internal and external stakeholders, including medical, mental health, housing, and other wraparound service providers.
• Participate actively in clinical supervision, case conferences, and staff meetings to support high-quality care.
• Maintain referral relationships and community partnerships to ensure clients have access to appropriate services and resources.
• Ensure patients receive appropriate wraparound services, including medical, mental health, housing, and related supports.
• Complete required program reporting such as HRA STARS, ACS, CJS, and other mandated documentation.
• Provide high-quality customer service to clients, families, and partners, demonstrating professionalism and empathy.
• Escalate significant client concerns, safety issues, or regulatory risks to leadership in a timely manner.
• Follow established policies and procedures, maintaining detailed and accurate records.
• Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement client-centered care plans.
• Demonstrate reliable attendance and flexibility with scheduling to meet program needs.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2+ years of experience working in OASAS licensed programs.
• Experience working in the healthcare or behavioral health industry.
• Strong counseling skills, including individual and group counseling.
• Experience with care coordination and working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with data entry and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to behavioral health and substance use services.
• Strong communication and assessment skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong computer skills and ability to use healthcare-related software and reporting systems.
• Ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
• Detail-oriented approach with the ability to follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Reliable attendance and flexibility with scheduling.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a Qualified Healthcare Professional with one of the following or an equivalent credential: CASAC, CASAC-T.

Shift: Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7pm or 12pm-8am (40 hours a week)

Pay Rate: Up to $28 an hour

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bronx, NY.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Bronx,NY.
