Insurance Customer Service Representative

Job Description Insurance experience is highly valued, but potential matters more. The Van Ruiten Agency, a Farmers Insurance agency in Reno, is looking for someone who wants more than a traditional customer service job. This role starts with taking great care of our customers and learning the insurance business, but the opportunity is much broader than that. You'll work directly alongside the agency owner and gain hands-on experience not only in insurance, but in sales, business development, marketing, technology and AI. As your knowledge and capabilities grow, so can your responsibilities, compensation and opportunities within the agency. We're building a modern, growth-oriented insurance agency around great customer relationships, smart use of technology, strong marketing and business development, and a willingness to challenge how things have traditionally been done when there's a better way. An established business with a new direction The agency is under new ownership, but we're not starting from scratch. We took over an established book of business with customer relationships dating back more than 20 years and customers throughout Nevada, California and Arizona. That creates an unusual opportunity: the stability and resources of an established insurance business, combined with the chance to join a small team early and help shape what it becomes. More than a traditional insurance job You'll work directly with agency owner Tom Van Ruiten, whose professional background is rooted in marketing, sales, business development and growth strategy, with experience building and executing growth strategies for organizations ranging from emerging businesses to major brands. Prepare quotes and work with inbound prospects and existing customers across auto, home and other insurance products. Review customer accounts, identify coverage needs and help customers understand appropriate solutions. Follow up on opportunities, referrals and renewals while maintaining accurate customer records and CRM activity. Contribute beyond traditional customer service as the agency grows, including process improvement, technology and AI, marketing, community events and business-development initiatives. This is not a cold-calling or purchased‑lead‑list sales job . There is a meaningful sales and account-development component, but it comes primarily from helping people who come to us, developing referrals and identifying opportunities to better serve existing customers. Requirements What we’re looking for We’re open to experienced insurance professionals, but we’re equally interested in someone with the raw ability and motivation to build a career. Nevada Property & Casualty insurance license required by your agreed employment start date. You do not need to be licensed when you apply. High school diploma or equivalent. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with different personalities and generations. Comfortable learning technology, insurance concepts and multiple business systems, with the ability to think both analytically and creatively. Dependable, self‑motivated and willing to take initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do next. Local to the Reno area and able to work primarily from our Reno office. Not licensed yet?
