CT Technologist I CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT scanners, post‑processing stations, IV contrast injectors, O₂ and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment with a high level of proficiency. Major Responsibilities Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned patient. Refer and question orders with the radiologist before performing the exam. Contact the ordering provider when discrepancies arise. Properly identify patients using two patient identifiers, assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures, prepare patients for the procedure with a full explanation, and document on appropriate worksheets. Interview patients for a complete medical history. Review in‑patients, ER, and outpatients EMR to obtain pertinent clinical history. Record medical history on requisitions and correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed. Assume responsibility for the exam from start to completion of dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols, and on request record contrast type and amount. Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with a radiologist if needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and process any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed. Perform basic patient care functions. Inform appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition, initiate life‑support measures when necessary, and assist during code‑blue procedures during medical emergencies. Perform CT scanning and assist the radiologist/PAs during invasive procedures. Practice proper sterile technique in preparing necessary supplies and perform all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation and infection control policies. Obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practice principles of radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members. Follow appropriate radiation safety standards. Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer. Maintain knowledge and skills to work safely in an environment that may expose staff to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures. Attend all in‑service classes and complete all required safety modules. Perform work accurately and timely during crisis and emergency situations. Rotate shifts as required, including call‑back, holidays and weekends. Adhere to the attendance policy by being punctual and taking measures to prevent absences. Operate the radiology computer system, including entering orders and charging procedures/supplies, and document contrast administration in the MAR. Maintain the assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion, keep it fully stocked and clean to promote workplace cleanliness. Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan. Minimum Job Requirements Education Graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by ARRT in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Certification / License ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from ARRT in CT within one year of hire required. BLS required. Work Experience N/A Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competencies appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. May need to stand, walk, sit, stretch, bend, twist, squat or kneel during normal operation. May be exposed to various physical conditions such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs or operating moving equipment. Must use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.
