Description

Summary: Installs and maintains machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reads and interprets blueprints, layout plans, vendor installation and operation manuals, and other schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools.
• Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks.
• Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors and tram rails, using cranes, hand tools and power tools.
• Constructs foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement and steel.
• Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
• Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
• May operate engine lathe to grind, file and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
• May use transit and level for equipment setting.
• Loads, transports and unloads materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
• Performs lubricating maintenance, cleaning activities, or repair of tools, machines, and equipment.
• Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
• Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
• Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
• Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
• Perform a variety of duties, which may change often.
• Operate machinery, such as welding equipment, cutting torches, misc. power and hand tools.
• Work at heights without fear.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
• Performs routine maintenance and housekeeping in elevator. Records maintenance and housekeeping performed in appropriate log book.
• Solid understanding of confined space entry policy and procedures, as well as, lock out tag out policy and procedures.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license and commercial insurability at all times.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and sometimes moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear.

Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

No Computer skills needed.

Certificates and Licenses:

May be required to maintain a current weighing license and grain grading certificate. Must maintain a valid driver's license and commercial insurability at all times. Welding certificate is preferred.
