Job Description
The Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of industrial production equipment, with an equal focus on mechanical and electrical systems. This role supports high-level CNC machining operations and related manufacturing processes by performing preventive and reactive maintenance on mills, lathes, grinders, forging equipment, heat treat equipment, magnesium phosphate machines, conveyors, and associated automation. The technician ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and contributes to a safe and efficient production environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform both mechanical and electrical maintenance on CNC machining centers, mills, lathes, grinders, heat treat equipment, hot and cold forging equipment, magnesium phosphate machines, stamping presses, injection molding machines, hobbers, shavers, conveyors, and related production machinery.
- Execute a balanced mix of work, spending approximately 50% of time on mechanical tasks and 50% on electrical tasks.
- Carry out mechanical repairs such as replacing ball screws, bearings, solenoids, hydraulic and pneumatic components, belts, and other wear items.
- Rebuild and repair loaders and other mechanical assemblies in CNC machines to ensure proper operation and alignment.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain conveyors, chip processors, and material handling systems to support continuous production flow.
- Diagnose and repair oil leaks, perform spindle repairs, and complete other precision mechanical adjustments and rebuilds as needed.
- Perform electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, including working with 480-volt, three-phase power, motors, and associated wiring.
- Troubleshoot and replace electrical components such as solenoids, limit switches, sensors, and other control devices.
- Conduct PLC troubleshooting on control systems, including working with Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi platforms, to identify and resolve equipment faults.
- Support and troubleshoot robotic equipment as part of the automated production process.
- Effectively execute the preventive maintenance program to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
- Respond to reactive maintenance needs in a timely manner to quickly restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.
- Use appropriate tools and fabrication skills to repair and modify equipment components when required.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately to support maintenance planning and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify root causes of equipment issues and recommend long-term solutions.
- Follow all safety procedures and electrical and mechanical lockout/tagout practices when working on equipment.
- Adapt to off-shift work schedules and shift changes as needed to support a three-shift manufacturing operation.
- Participate in apprenticeship or training programs when applicable to build or enhance journeyman-level machine repair or millwright skills.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting skills, including experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Proven electrical maintenance and troubleshooting experience with 480-volt, three-phase power, motors, and wiring.
- Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance in an industrial setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems, including Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi platforms.
- Experience maintaining and repairing CNC machines, including mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment.
- Proficiency in mechanical repairs such as replacing ball screws, bearings, belts, and hydraulic and pneumatic components.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical components such as solenoids, limit switches, and sensors.
- Comfort working with high-voltage electrical systems and industrial control equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical information related to machinery and control systems.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Willingness and ability to work off shifts (2nd or 3rd shift) and remain flexible to shift changes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Journeyman Machine Repair or Millwright card is highly valued; candidates without a card may be enrolled in a fully paid apprenticeship program.
- Experience with robotics in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Experience in maintaining stamping, injection molding, hobber, and shaver equipment.
- Familiarity with conveyors, chip processors, and automated material handling systems.
- Experience in automotive or high-precision CNC machining environments.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams.
- Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to established safety procedures.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large automotive manufacturing facility focused on high-level CNC machining, with approximately 140 machines operating across three shifts in a plant of about 600,000 square feet. The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, with noticeable oil and grease typical of heavy industrial and machining operations. Temperatures can become very hot in the summer, and the work involves regular exposure to running machinery, industrial equipment, and automated systems including robotics, CNC machines, stamping and molding equipment, conveyors, and chip processors. Maintenance technicians support 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:21 p.m.) and 3rd shift (approximately 11:00 p.m. to 7:21 a.m.), and must remain flexible to shift changes with advance notice. Standard industrial workwear and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to safely perform hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks in this environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $41000.00 - $72800.00/yr.
