Description Job Title: Float RN I Full Time: 3 shifts per week, weekend availability required Base Rate: $44.28 – $65.10 Rate with Overtime: $51.66 – $75.95 (12‑hour shifts; paid overtime after 8 hours) Sign‑on/Retention Bonus: $10,000 (Full Time Only) Job Summary: The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) can be assigned to any unit within the floating cluster assigned, per the competency without any exception. The Float Pool RN is responsible for the provision and coordination of patient‑centered care in the assigned area and follows the nursing process in the safe delivery of patient care. The Float Pool RN coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively and collaboratively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice and performance in the clinical setting. The Float Pool RN must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service to all patients in the assigned unit. Works in close coordination with the House Supervisors and Nursing Directors to troubleshoot staffing issues to ensure safe staffing throughout the hospital. Delivers comprehensive, regulatory‑compliant nursing care across diverse acute care units, including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, PACU, as assigned. Actively and consistently contributes to the delivery of patient care, operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication. Essential Functions Competent practicing in all units assigned within the float pool cluster. Competes to float to Medical/Surgical, Telemetry and/or Behavioral Health. Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs. Accurately obtains and records results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, responses in the electronic medical record. Adjust specialized medical equipment as needed and record measurements. Monitor patients’ vital signs and report adverse reactions to medication in a timely manner. Answer questions and educate patients and families on surgical procedures and post‑surgery care. Maintain and update patient files, medical charts, and health records. Collect current symptoms, detailed patient history and consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans. Organize and plan care of patients, assessing, determining treatment rationale and delivery, following protocols, administering medications accurately, educating patients. Attend and/or complete monthly, annual, and assigned training. Perform daily checks and clean equipment such as monitors, code equipment, crash cart checks and oxygen cylinders. Prepare and administer medications per the rights established by the State Board of Nursing and facility policies. Use clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external. Use AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilize white boards for patient communication. Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referrals and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Monitor patients using proper equipment as ordered. Triage patients appropriately using the ESI (Emergency Severity Index) system. Arrive to work prepared to receive patient report on time. Provide discharge instructions, follow‑up care and education to patients and family members. Abide by HIPAA regulations. Utilize SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services. Utilize the Nursing Process ADPIE to secure individualized and methodical patient care. Speak up to stop the line and escalation of potential safety events if necessary. Act quickly, appropriately and with a sense of urgency and prioritization in delivery of patient care. Stabilize patients by coordinating with medical staff providers, EMS, coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional, calm manner. Stock assigned rooms and keep work areas clean. Other duties as assigned. Wound Care Conduct comprehensive wound assessments to determine etiology, depth, and extent of wounds. Develop and implement individualized wound care plans based on patient needs and evidence‑based practices. Select and apply appropriate wound dressings and therapies, including negative pressure wound therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and bioengineered skin substitutes. Monitor wound progression and document healing at regular intervals. Educate patients and their families on wound care techniques, self‑management strategies, and signs of infection. Stay up to date with the latest wound care research and clinical practice guidelines. Behavioral Health Provide direct patient care to a specified patient population. Appropriately manage the care of mental health patients, maintaining department standards of quality. Perform basic nursing procedures, specific unit‑based nursing procedures and/or standardized procedures safely, accurately, and efficiently per policy and procedure. Incorporate interventions that communicate acceptance of the patients' beliefs, culture, religion, and socioeconomic background. Interact with patients one‑to‑one in a therapeutic manner. Monitor the safety of the therapeutic milieu and assist in the management of an assaultive patient. Participate in monitoring patient outcomes to evaluate effectiveness of care and identify organizational performance improvement opportunities. Understand legal aspects of nursing and importance of accurate documentation according to standards and policy. Document evaluation findings in the patient record. Demonstrate ongoing learning through in‑service and continuing education. Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings to update and individualize master treatment plan according to patient needs. Telemetry Monitor EKG output and keep doctors informed of any changes. Behavioral Standards Treat everyone as a customer; utilize scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service. Express recognition and show appreciation to others; fully utilize AIDET principles; respond quickly to handle requests, complaints, and questions; display a positive attitude. Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, passion and care when interacting with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff members. Use equity in all aspects of patient care delivery, education, and research to promote policies and practices that allow opportunities for all to thrive. Attend staff meetings; follow HIPAA guidelines; follow patient rights policy; comply with the compliance program; demonstrate knowledge of role in a disaster; know fire and fire drill procedures; have working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always use standard precautions; safely manage the environment of care by understanding requirements of the Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program. Qualifications and Experience Minimum one (1) year experience in Float Pool unit of expertise applied for; two (2) years preferred. In‑depth knowledge of best practices in area/specialty applied for. Adaptable to changing departments, work schedules, and patient needs. Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills; ability to read and comprehend written instructions; strong organizational skills; ability to follow verbal instructions; PC (computer) skills. Capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders of health care.
