Grand Prairie Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician/Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team. Assistants and Technicians play an important role providing medical care to animals by assisting Veterinarians. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases, and preventative healthcare. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and handling, with experience working in veterinary clinics.

Duties

• Support front desk operations such as client check-in and appointment scheduling and client communication.
• Perform laboratory procedures such as sample processing and basic diagnostic testing.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.
• Monitor animal patients before, during and after surgical procedures.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each patient including creation of surgical and procedural treatment plans.
• Provide client education on pet care, nutrition, and health maintenance.
• Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and treatments.
• Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment.

Position Requirements:

• Employee needs to be self-motivated and able stay on task
• Employee needs to be able to multi-task
• Employee must have proper phone etiquette, and be able to communicate well with co-workers and clients
• Employee must be able to stand and walk up to 8 hours.
• Employee is required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl
• Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs without assistance
• Employees will be required to restrain and care for unruly/aggressive dogs and cats
