Public Health Instructor

Dr. Guanyu Huang's research group ( at Stony Brook University invites applications for 1-2 fully funded PhD position(s) beginning Fall 2027. The group sits at the intersection of satellite remote sensing, AI/Machine Learning, and air quality and public health, and is jointly housed in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) and the Program in Public Health. Research areas Our work is supported by multiple federal agencies and includes: Trace gas and aerosol retrievals from satellites. AI and foundation models for trace gases and greenhouse gases, from retrieval to emission estimation and prediction. Air pollution exposure and health impact assessment. Who we're looking for BS or MS in atmospheric science, environmental science/engineering, physics, geography/GIScience, computer science, statistics, public health, or a related field Strong programming skills (Python preferred) and a solid quantitative background Interest in AI and/or satellite data; prior experience with remote sensing, chemical transport models, or deep learning frameworks is a plus but not required Curiosity, initiative, and clear written and spoken communication What we offer Full financial support (stipend, tuition, and health insurance) through research and teaching assistantships.
