Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA): Radiation Oncology, Outpatient I

Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute is seeking qualified Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners for an Outpatient Radiation position with the Radiation Oncology Program at our Indian River Hospital. This position involves treating outpatient adults throughout their radiation therapy and after, providing education and long‑term survivorship care. Additional responsibilities include managing patients, including, but not limited to symptom management, assessment, plan, and orders. Candidates with Advanced Practice Provider experience are preferred, particularly in Radiation Oncology or related fields. Nationally certified Advanced Practice Providers deliver primary and/or specialty care in a variety of healthcare settings, collaborating with the health care team in accordance with certification and licensure. Their practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. They are responsible for disseminating knowledge through instruction, leading, and developing educational programs. Responsibilities Conduct thorough medical histories, complete physical examinations when indicated, initiate appropriate labs, radiology tests, or other special tests, and scrutinize results to establish a current health status record and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan, working in collaboration with the health care team. Perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the governing body of the applicable hospitals. Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the governing body of the applicable hospitals. Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by licensure under applicable state board and Cleveland Clinic policies. Educate patients and answer questions regarding disease, treatments, related drug effects, and hazards. Participate in medical team rounds; collaborate with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care. Refer patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or specialized health resources and treatment. Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other multidisciplinary team members or specialty areas as necessary. Participate in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans to assure quality care. Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management. Support professional development of the health care team. Promote translation of evidence‑based practices, guidelines, and research. May conduct research studies and assist in data collection and analysis. May serve as clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers. Other duties as assigned. Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or a higher degree recognized by the state licensing board. Languages Oral and written communication in English. Certifications NP Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s). Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s). National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on the work setting. Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with state Board of Nursing requirements. Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and governing body of the applicable hospitals. PA Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by the state licensing board. License to practice and prescribe issued by the state licensing board. Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA. Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics, or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) may be required based on the work setting. If a candidate has held a license to prescribe in another jurisdiction and needs to obtain a master’s degree for prescribing privileges, the candidate will be subject to review for eligibility within the system. Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum. Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and governing body of the applicable hospitals. Capability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Work Experience Related clinical experience preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to walk and stand for long periods. Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination for physical examinations. Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 50 pounds. May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Personal Protective Equipment Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
