Job Summary

Build a Career Maintaining Critical Infrastructure

Covalen is seeking a Field Service Technician – Pumps & Controls to join our growing service team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on technician with experience in industrial controls, motor controls, automation, electrical troubleshooting, or pump systems who wants to expand their skills and build a long-term career.

In this role, you'll work alongside experienced technicians to troubleshoot, repair, and install pump systems and control panels that support critical water and wastewater infrastructure throughout Indiana and Ohio. Whether your background comes from industrial maintenance, manufacturing, automation, HVAC controls, MCCs, water treatment, or pump systems, we provide industry-specific training and a clear path to growth.

What You’ll Be Working With

• Industrial control panels
• Motor starters and contactors
• Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
• Single- and three-phase electrical systems (120V, 240V, 480V)
• Pumps, motors, lift stations, and wastewater systems
• Electrical and ladder logic schematics
• Level controls, alarms, relays, transmitters, and automatic sequencing controls

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Training & Development

• Work directly with experienced senior technicians to gain an in-depth understanding of Covalen products, systems, and processes
• Complete company-sponsored training and certifications required for the role
• Develop the skills necessary to advance into a Lead Service Technician position

Service & Repair

• Assist with the repair, rebuilding, replacement, and installation of municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential pump systems
• Diagnose and repair lift station pumps and pump systems
• Perform mechanical repairs, including bearings, seals, and gasket replacement
• Conduct equipment inspections and preventive maintenance

Electrical Controls & Troubleshooting

• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and commission pump control panels and electrical systems
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and control faults involving relays, contactors, motor starters, alarms, level controls, and power circuits
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and wiring diagrams
• Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs and VFDs
• Perform startup and operational testing of pumps, controls, and complete systems
• Verify proper sequencing, control functionality, and electrical connections

Customer Service

• Represent Covalen professionally at customer sites
• Communicate findings, recommendations, and repair status clearly with customers and team members
• Maintain accurate service documentation and work records

Additional Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required

• Electrical and/or mechanical repair, maintenance, or service experience
• Experience troubleshooting electrical control systems or industrial equipment
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder diagrams
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass a background check
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Preferred

• 2+ years of experience with industrial controls, motor controls, automation systems, HVAC controls, pump systems, or related equipment
• Experience with motor starters, contactors, PLCs, and VFDs
• Experience troubleshooting 120V, 240V, and 480V electrical systems
• Experience servicing pumps, motors, lift stations, or wastewater systems
• Confined space experience
• Trade school certificate, electrical certification, or electrical license
• Previous customer-facing service experience

SALARY

We offer a competitive salary range starting at $25-$35/hour, based on experience and skills. Eligible for overtime as required.
