Honeybee Robotics' Exploration Systems division is seeking an Electrical Engineer. In this role you will be interfacing with customers and inter-disciplinary project teams to develop electrical components and avionics systems. You will be responsible for flight avionics development, sample acquisition, handling devices, and other instruments used in planetary exploration and space applications. In this role you’ll interface with mechanical design, test, systems, integration, software and control engineering disciplines throughout the entire product lifecycle from conception to flight ready hardware.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a technical leader within the organization. This includes technical, budgetary and schedule oversight of a small team of engineers, as well as mentoring junior engineers and refining/defining standardized processes
• Design of Avionics systems including defining interfaces, requirements, printed circuit board functions and form factors.
• Design, manufacturing, and checkout of custom high-reliability PCBs for various avionics applications
• Harness design and assembly instructions for high-reliability applications
• Electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) design and documentation
• Define and execute tests at the integrated assembly level in avionics development labs, environmental test labs, radiation test labs and vendor test labs
• Apply technical expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle, including design review support and verification planning and execution, scheduling, etc.
• Collaborate with avionics product development team members to identify current technology capabilities, risks, opportunities and challenges and identify and develop solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
• 9+ years of developing and testing complex hardware equipment over the entire product lifecycle. 4+ years should be in aerospace.
• Expert at using common electrical lab equipment
• Expert knowledge in one, or more, of the following areas; Power Electronics, Motor Control, Embedded Systems, Sensor/Instrumentation.
• Familiarity with harness design and manufacturing.
• PCB layout experience, including controlled impedances and high reliability materials.
• Ability to work independently on rapid development programs
• Experience doing Worst-case Circuit analysis, circuit Finite Element Analysis (Spice, LTSpice, etc), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Demonstrate a strong solid understanding of electronics product development with expertise in systems integration (integration and test of avionics assemblies)
• Familiarity with use of complex computational devices (combinational and sequential logic) to monitor sensors and drive actuators, including design and verification
• Highly organized, safety and quality conscious, with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with radiation testing of EEE components
• Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field
• 12+ years of experience in developing hardware across entire product lifecycle, majority of experience in aerospace industry
• Experience developing or working with FPGA or Software developers
• Leadership experience of a medium, or larger (6+), size development team.
• Has developed and delivered hardware that has/will launch into space.
• Familiarity with EEE-INST-002 parts classification, selection of radiation-hardness-assured components, and radiation-mitigation strategies
• Proficiency with scripting; programming and analysis/modeling tools: Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting; assembly language, C, C++; MATLAB / Simulink / SPICE (or similar)
• Experience using Altium to design complex printed circuit boards

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45
