PROGRAM TECHNICIAN III

Program Technician III Salary: $4,329.00 - $5,425.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, when applicable. Overall Description This position reports to the Supervising Program Technician (SPT) III and is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, coding, verifying, and updating complex arrest and disposition information submitted by criminal justice agencies for inclusion in the state criminal history repository. The Program Technician III serves as a subject‑matter expert on manually maintaining criminal history information and assists in developing and maintaining program procedures. The role also involves peer‑to‑peer training of all levels of Program Technician staff and collaborates closely with the Crime Analyst II to ensure training is completed per program plans. Responsibilities Review, analyze, code, verify, and update arrest and disposition data submitted by criminal justice agencies. Maintain manual criminal history records based on agency submissions. Assist in the development and maintenance of program procedures. Provide peer‑to‑peer training to Program Technician staff. Collaborate with Crime Analyst II to ensure training is completed according to program plans. Apply thorough knowledge of criminal and applicant update processes, the California criminal justice system, and departmental policies and procedures. Minimum Requirements Minimum qualifications are listed in the Class Specification for Program Technician III. Desired Qualifications Ability to follow oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures. Good attendance and punctuality. Interest in the criminal justice system. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Understanding of criminal justice and ability to interpret manual and automated criminal history records. Proficiency in data analysis and research. Typing skill for long periods (8‑hour shift). Special Requirements Fingerprint check required. Background check required (if applicable). No visa sponsorship; not an E‑Verify employer. Working Conditions This position is eligible for telework and may require periodic on‑site reporting to headquarters or field offices. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
