Overview Duties of the Nurse Practitioner include, but are not limited to: serving as a staff expert, technical authority and direct consultant concerning broad occupational health matters with special expertise in occupational health nursing. Drafting OSHA compliance assistance guidance, training materials, letters of interpretation, and technical resources. Supporting enforcement support work, including reviewing cases and other Directorate activities, including reviewing policy documents and making appropriate recommendations. Evaluating, planning, and conducting process improvement, program analysis, studies and special projects that support OSHA. Providing technical assistance and training to OSHA's National Office and regional offices, individuals, other federal and state agencies and non-governmental organizations. Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be at least 16 years old. Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level. Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met. Qualifications You must meet the basic requirements listed in the education requirements and the specialized experience to qualify for Nurse Practitioner, as described below. Education and Licensure Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must be accredited by the appropriate accrediting body. For Advanced Practice Nurse positions: possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Specialties include, but are not limited to: Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. Licensure: Must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory in the clinical specialty required by the position for Advanced Practice Nurse positions. Experience The work experience must equip the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 level and above, experience may require a specialty area of nursing. At least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, where applicable. For the GS-14 position: 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience Specialized experience is the experience that equips the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully, typically in or related to the position. For the GS-14 position, qualifying specialized experience includes: Reviewing occupational health evidence in investigations and/or providing advice and assistance to compliance safety and health officers. Making recommendations or implementing changes to improve methods in handling medical information. Participating in office and/or field investigations to provide technical nursing consultation to staff. Additional Information The official title of this position is Advanced Practice Nurse .
