Overview of the RoleThe RN Imaging Resource Coordinator is essential in facilitating invasive imaging procedures. This role involves managing scheduling, optimizing workflows, and ensuring effective communication among referral offices, staff, and Interventional Radiology (IR) physicians. The coordinator is responsible for the timely acquisition of external images and reports, ensuring seamless patient care coordination, and identifying areas for process enhancement to improve efficiency and patient satisfaction. Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with colleagues, other departments, and medical staff is crucial. Additionally, this position provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures, including interventional radiology, ensuring their safety, comfort, and education throughout the imaging process while collaborating with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals.

Technical Job Requirements
Requires excellent motor coordination and manual dexterity, including precision and speed. Effective communication skills, including talking, hearing, and visual acuity, are essential. High mental acuity is necessary for decision-making, reading, writing, and basic math. Basic computer skills are required, along with the ability to perform additional assigned tasks. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and scheduling invasive imaging procedures to optimize resource use and minimize delays.
- Monitoring patient flow and adjusting schedules to ensure efficiency and satisfaction.
- Obtaining external imaging studies and reports prior to procedures.
- Verifying the completeness and accuracy of patient records for IR procedures.
- Acting as the primary liaison between referral offices, imaging staff, and IR physicians.
- Communicating procedure details, preparation instructions, and updates to all involved parties.
- Tracking and analyzing scheduling trends and workflow bottlenecks.
- Recommending and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintaining accurate records of scheduled procedures, acquired images, and communications.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
- Applying critical thinking skills to prioritize and resolve issues in line with facility policies.
- Educating others as necessary and participating in in-services and meetings.
- Serving as a backup to the procedural Radiology Nurse.
- Assessing and preparing patients for imaging procedures, including reviewing medical histories and allergies.
- Administering medications, contrast agents, and sedation as prescribed.
- Monitoring patients during and after procedures for any adverse reactions.
- Assisting radiologists and technologists during interventional and diagnostic procedures.
- Maintaining sterile techniques and ensuring proper equipment setup.
- Responding promptly to emergencies and initiating appropriate interventions.
- Providing clear instructions and education to patients and families regarding procedures and post-care.
- Documenting all nursing care, medications, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Adhering to hospital policies, infection control standards, and radiation safety protocols.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and maintaining current certifications.
Qualifications Required:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required
- At least 2 years of experience in diagnostic imaging or clinical nursing in a hospital setting, with moderate sedation experience preferred
