Description:
The role of the Respiratory Therapist is to ensure that respiratory therapy services are completed in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner.
This includes evaluating and treating inpatients and outpatients as well as supporting staff and community groups as needed.
Key responsibilities involve administering respiratory therapy procedures as directed.
The therapist will perform aerosol therapy treatments and manage secretion mobilization therapy.
They will also be responsible for incentive spirometry therapy and M.D.I. therapy.
Suctioning and extubation procedures will be part of their duties, along with ensuring oxygen tank safety.
Oxygen therapy on all approved devices will be administered as required.
The therapist will manage BiPAP-CPAP therapy and alarms, as well as cough assist and vest therapy.
High flow cannula and humidifier therapy management will also be part of their responsibilities.
Pulmonary function screening diagnostic procedures will be performed regularly.
Fit testing procedures will be conducted in coordination with health personnel.
Pulse oximetry and EKG procedures for adults and pediatrics will be performed.
Basic life support for adults, pediatrics, and neonates will also be administered.
The therapist will manage mechanical ventilation, including ventilator alarms.
Arterial puncture and analysis for blood gas laboratory testing will be performed.
Quality control for the blood gas laboratory is also a critical responsibility.
The therapist will manage the patient healthcare information system and medication administration program.
They will verify physician orders for pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Documentation and reporting of procedure results are essential duties.
The position involves adhering to department delivery standards.
Maintaining files and bookkeeping records in accordance with departmental policy is required.
Other related duties and participation in departmental in-service programs will be expected.
Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
