Comprehensive knowledge of the specialized certification area, current rules and regulations regarding special education assessment and program requirements. Excellent integrity, good moral character and initiative. Knowledge of child growth and development, disabilities, instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and research related to learning and children with exceptional needs. Enthusiastic interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and community. Effective communication in English, orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Proficiency with technology and electronic equipment for instruction, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications. Meet alternatives to above qualifications as Superintendent may deem appropriate. Reports To: Principal and/or his/her designee Job Goals: The Special Education Teacher provides specialized learning experiences and supervision of students with disabilities in a supportive and positive classroom environment, preparing them for college and/or career readiness. Responsibilities include advocating for students, ensuring they meet and exceed Common Core standards as outlined in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and collaborating with staff, the Child Study Team, parents, and resources. Performance Responsibilities Implement the educational program and related services outlined in the IEP. Provide instructional program closely related to and coordinated with the regular program to give students meaningful access to Common Core standards. Maintain records indicating student progress and assist with evaluation and assessment. Participate in IEP development and annual review; monitor implementation; communicate progress with the Child Study Team and Case Manager. Collaborate with regular education teachers for mainstreaming; provide specialized instruction, accommodations, and curriculum adaptations. Communicate regularly with parents through conferences and other means. When assigned, establish schedule, role and responsibilities for paraprofessionals. Consult with staff and provide professional development on needs of students and strategies to address learning, behavior, or transition problems. Submit lesson plans in approved format to Principal as required. Create a supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages responsibility; use positive motivation, routines, instructional strategies, and classroom management; discipline fairly. Develop professional rapport with students. Assess and diagnose learning, social, and emotional needs using assessment techniques and data; adjust learning experiences accordingly. Assist in preparation, monitoring, and follow‑up of IEPs for selected students. Employ a variety of instructional methods to demonstrate learning; evaluate and grade assignments promptly; provide feedback; maintain records of growth. Supervise all students within the school, ensuring safety and well‑being. Ensure safety and health; notify administration of unsafe conditions. Create an organized, functional, healthy and safe classroom. Complete records, attendance, and financial responsibilities timely. Work cooperatively with paraprofessionals, student teachers, parents and volunteers; establish clear expectations. Serve as role model; dress and groom professionally; demonstrate pride in teaching. Maintain positive relationships with administration, staff, students, parents, and community agencies. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees; participate in curriculum and program development. Notify appropriate personnel of substance abuse, abuse or neglect concerns. Continue professional growth through collaboration and development experiences. Summarize and disseminate learning strategies through journals, professional development, and organizations. Complete required 20 clock hours of state‑approved continuing professional development each year. Recommend supplies and equipment to Principal; assist with ordering. Maintain safe working condition and operate electronic equipment. Protect confidentiality; use discretion within legal confines. Adhere to all laws, policies, regulations, and contract obligations. Perform any other duties required by Principal or supervisor. Evaluation: Performance evaluated annually per state law and Board policy. Salary & Benefits Annual salary range: $65,390.00 – $99,775.00.
