Job TitleOpticianJob DescriptionThe Optician must be able to work with our diverse base of customers (i.e. pediatric, adolescent, and adult) by delivering quality optical care and outstanding and friendly customer service establishing customer loyalty. The Optician must be able to assist patients with eyeglasses ordering and fittings. The Optician must also possess strong sales skills by demonstrating a high level of knowledge about our products and determining our patient's need for eyewear to recommend specific accessories and or enhancement for glasses.Pay Range - $17.50- $18.00/hr. Commensurate with experienceResponsibilitiesInterpretation of prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometristsCommunicate with physician regarding questions or concerns about prescriptions and other eye-related issuesInspect lenses to detect flaws, verify prescription, progressive measurements, lens enhancements and coatings.Measure bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers, using measuring devicesMount and secure lenses in holding tools or chucks for cutting, polishing, and or grindingAssist in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptionsRecommend specific lenses, lens coating, other lens enhancements, and frames to suit patient needsVerify that finished lenses are ground to specificationsCreate work orders for lab technicians to ensure delivery of the proper lensesSet up machines to polish, bevel, edge, or grind lensesHeat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to properly fitShape lenses appropriately so that they can be inserted into framesRepair broken/damaged framesEducate on proper wear, care of eyeglasses, and contact lensDetermine clients' current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers, and mark up progressives correctlyKeeping track of orders, prescriptions, and inventoryArrange and maintain displays of optical merchandiseAttend training workshops/meetings as scheduledOther duties as assignedQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredMinimum 2 years of eyecare experience required ABO CertifiedMinimum Associates or equivalent and on-the-job training or post-secondary educationStrong computer knowledge and skills with a minimum typing speed of 30 AW PM Able to navigate multiple system applicationsAbility to effectively communicateProfessionalismMulti-taskingTime ManagementOrganizational SkillsAttention to DetailStrong computer knowledge and skills with a minimum typing speed of 30 AW PM.Able to navigate multiple system applications.Preferred Skills:Prior retail sales or work in the healthcare industry (preferred)Company BenefitsWe offer a competitive benefits package to our employees:MedicalDentalVision401k w/ MatchHSA/FSATelemedicineGenerous PTO PackageWe also offer the following benefits for FREE:Employee Discounts and PerksEmployee Assistance ProgramGroup Life/AD&DShort Term Disability InsuranceLong Term Disability InsuranceEyeSouth Partners is an equal opportunity employer.
