Student Help Job Summary: The Student Outreach Assistant supports Student Support Services (SSS) by serving as a lead peer mentor and providing direct outreach to students. This role focuses on fostering student belonging, persistence, and career readiness and NACE competencies, while connecting students to campus resources and High Impact Practices (HIPs). Key Responsibilities: • Serve as a lead peer mentor and support the training and guidance of peer mentors.
• Serve as a peer mentor to a group of SSS first-year students.
• Meet individually and in small groups with students to support belonging, persistence, and transition topics. • Assist students with career readiness, including resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, and Handshake profiles. • Connect students to High Impact Practices (e.g., study abroad, internships, community service, e-portfolios) and help develop HIP and NACE competency goals. • Support SSS programming, including New student recruitment, New Student Orientation, Experience Parkside Days, Early Arrival Program, and first-year seminars. • Facilitate connections between students, peer coaches, and alumni mentors. • Collect and maintain student data, administer assessments, and support program reporting. • Office coverage and provide information on program services to students, university staff, and the public. • Performs other duties as assigned to support student outreach efforts including special projects. Key Job Responsibilities: Department: Student Support Services Compensation: $15 per hour Required Qualifications: • Candidates at sophomore or junior standing considered. • Experience in student engagement, career development, internships, e-portfolios, or work-based learning, community-based learning. • Strong communication, analytical, leadership, and organizational skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain accurate records. • Proficiency with computers and standard office software. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by TRIO participants is preferred. • Work study student preferred.
