Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Lowell, MA

As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you'll collaborate with educators and families to provide essential skills for independent travel and daily navigation. This contract position offers a full-time schedule in a supportive and dynamic school setting for the 2025-2026 academic year.


Key Qualifications:

• Current and active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) license in Massachusetts
• Experience working with blind or visually impaired students across K-12 preferred
• Comfortable working onsite throughout the school year
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
• Passion for fostering independence and confidence in students

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction tailored to student needs, including travel skills, use of mobility aids, and orientation strategies
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and maintain accurate progress documentation
• Provide recommendations and training for assistive technology to support navigation
• Offer guidance on safe travel within school and community environments
• Organize and conduct training sessions with staff as needed to support student goals
