The Florence Crittenton Agency (FCA) continues to lead the charge for youth and family development in Knoxville, Tennessee. Job Summary :
Oversee school curriculum and student instruction as well as implement school policies and procedures. Take responsibility for being an integral part of students' behavior management process including participation in treatment teams, student interviewing, assessments, and testing. Teach classes year-round focusing on the needs of individual students within Agency guidelines. Supervise and evaluate using Tennessee framework for evaluation. Ensure that all reporting, including grading, is completed in a thorough and timely manner. This position may be part of ratio during business hours as needed for youth/staff ratio compliance and in ratio for emergency/crisis situations as assigned by management.
Essential Functions :
Responsibilities - Principal: Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Attend training for evaluation procedures
- Complete and submit all paperwork required for school approval to the Department of Education in a timely manner, including:
- 200-day Accountability Report
- Preliminary School Report
- Preliminary Staff Report
- Report of School System Compliance
- Private School Reporting Form- sent at least once a semester to Dept. of Ed. and the Superintendent of Schools for each student's home county.
- Assist teachers with implementation of a behavior management system in their classrooms, if needed, and possibly create a school-wide BMS. Lead meetings to write behavioral contracts for students with severe behavioral difficulties.
- Provide information as needed for treatment team.
- Assume responsibility as Testing Coordinator- order, prepare, and return materials. Keep online forms current. Make sure students receive modifications, attend meetings, and keep abreast of any changes in procedures. Test students as needed. Ensure students receive feedback from test results.
- Plan for individual and group educational experiences following curriculum guidelines established by the Tennessee Department of Education. Ensure courses being taught meet Tennessee curriculum standards.
- This position may be part of ratio during business hours as needed for youth/staff ratio compliance and in ratio for emergency/crisis situations as assigned by management
- Participate in all relative professional growth trainings within the region.
- Ensure special education guidelines and procedures are timely and accurate.
- Establish new procedures, expectations and school policies as needed to ensure a successful school year, each year.
- Supervise teachers and school staff.
- Use Frameworks for Evaluation guidelines to evaluate teachers
- Assist in the hire of new education staff
- Assist in planning professional development activities
- Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities – Teacher:
- Teach courses year-round, including summer at New Pathways Academy
- Develop critical thinking skills for students at New Pathways Academy through the use of materials and hands-on teaching; provide different methods of teaching that will meet the needs of individual students effectively.
- Determine the individual needs of the students through educational assessments, adapt materials (when needed), and consider the big picture of academics in their lives.
- Plan for individual and group educational experiences following curriculum guidelines established by the Tennessee Department of Education.
- Complete all paperwork, including grading student assignments, reporting grades to Education Liaison, and reporting academic progress and timely completion of other FCA or DCS forms as needed.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in interaction with fellow school personnel, agency staff, students and their family members. Contribute to weekly school treatment team meetings, monthly school staff meetings, and mandatory staff meetings.
- Attend all Agency-required training within the timeframes established; provide up-to-date personnel documentation to the HR department as expirations occur or as requested by HR.
- Provide tutoring/mentoring as needed for students.
Job Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education (preferred); Bachelor's degree in Education or other relevant program, with Special Education Certificate and experience working in a school setting with at-risk adolescents. Must be licensed to teach in the State of Tennessee.

- Verbally communicate in English clearly and effectively

- Be visually capable of determining body language
- Lift up to 25 pounds & Able to walk and/or run a quarter mile continuously
- (BFOQ:) Be physically capable of passing all aspects of Handle with Care (restraint) training, first aid and CPR if required
