Protein Analytical Scientist - Mass Spectrometry (Large Molecules)

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a Protein Analytical Scientist to join the Global Bioproduction Analytics Team in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The role focuses on developing and executing LC-MS methods for characterizing therapeutic proteins, including monoclonal antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates, to support cell culture media product development.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and execute LC-MS methods for therapeutic protein characterization using high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms
- Analyze complex mass spectrometry datasets to identify post-translational modifications, sequence variants, and structural attributes of protein therapeutics
- Characterize critical quality attributes including glycan heterogeneity, charge variants, and molecular integrity using orthogonal techniques
- Prepare scientific reports, technical presentations, and analytical documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance verification of mass spectrometers and chromatography systems
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field with 0–3 years experience; or M.S. with 3+ years; or B.S. with 6+ years
- Hands-on experience operating high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms such as Orbitrap
- Demonstrated expertise in LC-MS method development and optimization for large molecule characterization
- Proven experience characterizing monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies, ADCs, or related therapeutic proteins
- Knowledge of protein post-translational modifications, glycosylation analysis, and aggregation analysis
- Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with excellent communication abilities
- Legal authorization to work in United States without sponsorship; must pass background check and drug screening
