Financial Aid Counselor I

Department :Financial Aid Salary :$36,294- $36,436 Description : Job Summary The Financial Aid Counselor I assists prospective and current students with all matters related to acquiring and maintaining financial aid. Duties Participates and collaborates in outreach activities and special events planning Creates, organizes, maintains, and promotes financial aid information Advises students of the financial aid process and procedures Responds to students' questions and concerns Marginal Duties Performs all other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities Direct Reports: None Delegation of Work: N/A Supervision Given: N/A Qualifications Required Education: Bachelor's degree Required Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience License/Certification: None Required Preferred Qualifications None Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: Knowledge of the financial aid process in a higher education environment, and of the related trends, issues, and practices Skills: Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Publisher and Outlook; strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community Work Location and Physical Demands Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment Physical Demands: Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks Must have precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors Must have the ability to move items of up to 15lbs All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
