We are seeking a PLC Engineer to join our team. This role will involve designing, developing, and implementing PLC programs, supporting automation systems in manufacturing plants, and traveling to multiple facilities to support commissioning and troubleshooting activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in PLC programming, industrial automation, SCADA systems, HMI development, SQL databases, and manufacturing automation environments , along with a passion for delivering reliable and efficient industrial control systems.

Location: Saint Joseph, MO 64503 (Hybrid - 3 days in plant / 2 days remote with travel across U.S. plants)


Duration: 6 Months Contract

Job Description


Trilyon is seeking a skilled PLC Engineer to support industrial automation and control system initiatives across multiple manufacturing facilities. The PLC Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining PLC-based control systems while ensuring reliable plant operations and efficient automation processes.


The PLC Engineer will collaborate with engineering teams and plant personnel to analyze requirements, develop PLC programs, and support system integration across manufacturing environments. This role includes working with various automation technologies, implementing SCADA and HMI solutions, and optimizing automation processes to enhance plant performance.


The PLC Engineer will also support troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintenance activities at manufacturing facilities across the United States. Additionally, the PLC Engineer will assist with system documentation, provide technical support to plant teams, and ensure automation systems operate effectively in production environments.

Key Responsibilities

PLC Programming & Automation Development

  • Design, develop, and implement PLC programs using Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms .
  • Configure and support automation systems using RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, CCW, TIA Portal, and SIMATIC platforms .
  • Develop control logic and optimize PLC performance for manufacturing operations.
HMI & SCADA System Integration

  • Develop and maintain HMI applications using FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or similar tools .
  • Work with Ignition SCADA platform for industrial monitoring and control systems.
  • Integrate automation systems with plant-level data and monitoring platforms.
System Integration & Communication

  • Configure and manage Kepware for OPC communication between industrial devices and control systems .
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries for data logging, reporting, and system integration .
  • Support integration of PLC systems with enterprise-level manufacturing systems.
Commissioning & Plant Support

  • Perform on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support at manufacturing plants across the U.S.
  • Work with plant engineering teams to resolve automation issues and improve system reliability.
  • Support deployment and upgrades of automation systems across multiple facilities.
Documentation & System Maintenance

  • Maintain documentation including system architecture diagrams, PLC code documentation, and configuration records .
  • Assist with system upgrades, troubleshooting procedures, and operational documentation.
Required Skills & Experience

PLC Programming (5-6+ years)

  • Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Siemens PLC systems .
  • Experience using RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, CCW, TIA Portal, and SIMATIC platforms .
HMI Development (4+ years)

  • Experience developing HMI applications using FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or similar HMI platforms .
SCADA Systems (4+ years)

  • Experience working with Ignition SCADA platform for industrial automation monitoring and control .
Industrial Communication & Integration (3+ years)

  • Experience configuring Kepware and OPC communication protocols for industrial systems.
SQL & Data Integration (3+ years)

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases for automation system data logging and reporting .
Manufacturing Automation & Industrial Systems (3+ years)

  • Experience working in manufacturing environments with automation and control systems .
  • Understanding of industrial computing infrastructure including hardware, networking, and operating systems .
Scripting & Automation (Preferred)

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript used in Ignition .
Travel & Plant Support

  • Willingness to travel to manufacturing plants across the United States as required .
Education


Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field .
