What does a Certified Medical Assistant do? As a Certified Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient flow of patients through the practice setting by facilitating examinations and treatment of patients while exhibiting exceptional customer service. Typical day on the job includes assisting providers to maximize patient volume by preparing patients for visit, administering medications, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and returning patient calls in a timely manner. Completing physician orders, phone prescription requests, scheduling and arranging labs and tests. Providing patient instructions regarding diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments. Processing patient referrals timely and following up to ensure specialist reports or test results are received. Maintaining effective patient communication and efficient patient flow. Maintaining medical records and ensuring all required documentation is available in the medical record. Ensuring data and information collected for completed procedures is recorded on the appropriate systems and in medical records. Ensuring the orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stocking assigned areas, and following all regulatory and patient safety clinical standards. Checking and completing required logs and equipment such as refrigerator logs, medication inventories, etc. Performing administrative duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre‑certification of tests, procedures, and medications, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, answering phones, and entering ambulatory care charges. Responsibilities Facilitate examinations and treatment of patients Assist providers to maximize patient volume Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Return patient calls timely Complete physician orders and facilitate care Phone patient prescriptions, schedule and arrange labs and diagnostic tests Provide instructions for diagnostic tests and procedures Process patient referrals and follow up Maintain effective patient communication and efficient patient flow Maintain medical records and ensure required documentation Record data and information for completed procedures Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of examination rooms Check required logs and equipment Perform administrative duties: greeting, registration, scheduling, pre‑certification, insurance processing, financial records, phone answering, billing entries Qualifications Graduate of accredited medical assisting program Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through an accredited certification organization 2 years of experience in a physician’s office setting (preferred) Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association Basic office skills, patient‑centered mindset, excellent time management and organization skills; ability to multitask and work in a fast‑paced environment Benefits Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, FSA Employer matched retirement plan Competitive wages Paid time off for personal/vacation/sick Six paid holidays per year Educational assistance Day shift schedules Work Hours The hours of operation for the Total Weight Loss clinic are Monday‑Friday, 8am–4:30pm. Your primary schedule will be during those hours, with periodic need to work outside your schedule to serve our patients.
