Under the supervision of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist, provides direct patient care services and other related functions in support of the department. Performs independently within scope of department policies. Clinically works at the direction of a qualified Radiologist. I. Major Responsibilities: Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols. Gather pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records. Accurately completes all records, paperwork, and billings and submits promptly. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams. Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC to images and send exams to PACS for review by the radiologist. Assists the radiologists with ultrasound guided interventional procedures. Follow Universal protocol in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies. Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed. Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedure. Assists with other job-related duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling. Travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required: Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology program. Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one category within one year of hire date. Preferred: Associate degree Experience/Skills: Required: Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician. Knowledge consistent with outlines in Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal OB/Gyn Ultrasound for ARDMS exams. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results. Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families. Preferred: Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents. III. Physical Demands And Environmental Conditions: Constantly: Performing Repetitive Movements and Working Indoors; Lifting – Less than 10 pounds. Frequently: Sitting, Reaching, Grasping, Precise Motor Skills required, Precise Hearing required, Precise Vision required; Carrying and Pushing – Less than 10 pounds; Pulling – Less than 10 pounds and 50 to Over 100 pounds. Often: Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Twisting, Bending, High Level of Stress; Lifting, Carrying, and Pushing – 10 pounds to Over 100 pounds; Pulling – 10 pounds to 50 pounds. Never: Climbing, Balancing, Kneeling, Crawling, Working Outdoors, Working in Temperature Extremes, and Working at Heights. Training and Clinical Competency Requirements This position is primarily assigned to support clinical operations at the Nashoba/Groton campus. Due to the specialized pediatric patient population and available clinical resources, initial orientation, training, and competency validation for pediatric ultrasound examinations will be conducted at the University Campus. Following successful completion of orientation, the employee's primary work assignment will remain at the Nashoba/Groton campus. When clinically indicated, additional education, competency assessment, remediation, or maintenance of pediatric ultrasound competencies may be scheduled at the University Campus to ensure continued proficiency and compliance with departmental standards.
