Job Title: Quality Technician

Job Description

The Quality Technician ensures that machined parts consistently meet drawings, specifications, and customer requirements by performing precise inspections and maintaining accurate quality documentation. This role uses precision measuring tools, interprets engineering drawings and GD&T, and partners closely with Production to identify, investigate, and resolve machining quality issues.

Responsibilities

• Inspect machined parts using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
• Measure and record part dimensions and compare them to engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
• Identify and document non-conforming parts, including machining, dimensional, and workmanship issues.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, quality documentation, and related reports to support traceability and continuous improvement.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T symbols to determine inspection criteria and acceptance standards.
• Use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to perform detailed inspections and first article inspections.
• Support quality assurance and quality control activities by following established inspection procedures and standards.
• Assist with troubleshooting and root-cause investigations to determine the source of machining quality problems.
• Work directly with Production to find, address, and resolve machining quality issues in a timely and collaborative manner.
• Apply a strong attention to detail and a keen eye for defects to detect subtle deviations and prevent defective parts from reaching customers.

Essential Skills

• Machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Experience with quality assurance and quality control practices in a machining environment.
• Capability to identify machining, dimensional, and workmanship issues.
• Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for spotting defects.
• Ability to maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and CMM programming.
• Experience in performing first article inspections.
• Familiarity with using various gauges and precision inspection equipment.
• Exposure to root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of machining quality problems.

Work Environment

This is a Permanent position based out of Des Plaines, IL.

The pay range for this position is $40000.00 - $65000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
