Registered Nurse L&D - Mother Baby

Description The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The Registered Nurse oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care, ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan. The patient care process includes: Assessment – an orderly process that involves identifying, gathering, and organizing subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural aspects. Planning – the identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals), resulting in a documented plan of care that provides direction for the patient/family and the interdisciplinary team. Intervention – the specific interventions or orders that are implemented in accordance with the plan of care and the medical treatment plan. Evaluation – determining the effectiveness of the interventions in achieving the plan of care and drawing conclusions regarding the achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes. The evaluation may initiate the need for reassessment and revisions to the problems, goals, plan, and interventions, and requires documentation of required actions. Based upon findings identified during assessment and reassessment, patients have problems identified and prioritized relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational, and social status. Goals are identified consistent with the problem to provide direction for patient care and health promotion. Education is tailored to the identified problem and associated goals and is seen as crucial for patient empowerment. Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services including specimen collection, processing, quality control, instrument maintenance, and reporting of results. Licensed and registered care providers must document assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation relative to their scope of practice and knowledge base. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines, and organizational policy. The Registered Nurse actively supports performance‑improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other members of the patient care team. By participating in educational activities, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth. Qualifications Education / License – Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey, or a valid multi‑state license. BLS required. A valid NJ driver’s license is required for employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs. Experience – Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; training will be provided, and skill will be required within 30‑60 days of hire. Certification – ACLS required within 6 months of initial assignment and continuously maintained thereafter. Nurses after 24 months of initial assignment must complete ATCN or TNCC. Minimum of 8 contact hours of education per year in basic trauma assessment, intervention, and stabilization; PALS or ENPC provider status attainable within 12 months of assignment and maintained. Minimum of 8 contact hours of education per year in basic stroke assessment, intervention, and NIHSS required within 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter. Performance Expectations Demonstrate the ability to perform department‑specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including blood‑borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and injury. Physiological demands: considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, extensive standing and walking (including stairs), lifting 25‑50 pounds frequently, lifting 50‑100 pounds with assistance occasionally, pushing and pulling heavy equipment, and distinguishing colors where required. Reporting Relationship This position reports to the patient care unit or department leadership.
