Responsibilities Diagnoses and treats speech and language disorders, and scientifically studies human communication. Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. Plans, directs, and conducts habilitative and rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology. Others duties as assigned. Qualifications Possess strong oral and written communication skills. Possess strong computer and educational technological skills. Works independently with little direct supervision. Works as part of a team. Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated. Possess skills in working with all areas and severity levels of communication disorders as well as all age levels. Knowledge of special education compliance. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification or willingness to complete clinical fellowship year is preferred. Education And Licensure Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check. Requires a master’s degree in Speech-language Pathology from a regionally accredited college or university. Requires one of the following: a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Speech Language Pathology License Area of Concentration completion of a Utah State Board of Education approved Speech-language Pathology preparation program pending recommendation for a professional license, or an equivalent license in another state or country. New Speech-Language Pathology program graduates who have not yet received their educator license may upload a conferral letter from their university preparation program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific area(s) in which the applicant will be licensed. A similar letter may be used for individuals seeking to complete a clinical fellowship year. Working Environment Work takes place in a typical school environment. Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
