Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical/Structural Engineer to support government and commercial nuclear projects through various phases of project execution. This includes planning, design, analysis, and construction support. The role involves performing analysis and design for non-building structures, developing engineering deliverables, and supporting technical solutions to ensure compliance with quality assurance programs and applicable codes and standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, capable of working independently, and experienced in engineering design and analysis within industrial, DOE, or nuclear environments.
Responsibilities

• Support structural engineering and multi-disciplinary design projects during the planning, design, and construction phases.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications related to seismic and wind analyses, foundation design, structural framing analyses, and bracing analyses.
• Perform structural analysis using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to evaluate structures.
• Conduct shell analysis activities, such as glovebox shell analysis or similar structural shell evaluations.
• Support the development and review of engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Conduct construction document reviews, field verifications, and facility walkdowns as required.
• Coordinate design efforts with other engineering disciplines, project teams, and customer stakeholders.
• Provide engineering support during construction activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and technical evaluations.
• Organize and execute assigned work efficiently within project schedules and deadlines.
• Perform all work under quality assurance requirements in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and communicate project status updates to project leadership.
• Promote a culture of safety, quality, and professionalism in all work activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• Minimum of three years of related engineering experience.
• Experience in structural analysis and design with a strong understanding of applicable engineering codes and standards.
• Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Experience utilizing structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro or GTSTRUDL.
• Experience in performing shell analysis, including glovebox shell analysis or similar evaluations.
• Proficient technical communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance is preferred.
• Experience in DOE/NNSA or commercial nuclear industries preferred.
• PE License, with the ability to obtain licensure in Tennessee, preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Five years of experience in structural analysis of complex equipment, preferably in regulated environments like DOE, DOD, or Nuclear.
• Experience with STAAD, STAAD.Pro, or GT STRUDL software.
• Hybrid/Remote potential.

This position is based in an office environment with potential for hybrid or remote work arrangements.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oak Ridge, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $120.00/hr.
