Position Summary

The Landscape Crew Leader is responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of commercial landscape maintenance and enhancement work. This position leads a crew in the field, coordinates daily assignments, operates equipment, and ensures that work is completed according to company standards, job specifications, and estimated labor hours.

Crew Leaders may be assigned to maintenance routes, enhancement projects, or a combination of both based on operational needs and experience. The position requires hands-on leadership, strong technical landscape skills, and the ability to manage crew members while maintaining productivity and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Production

• Lead, train, and work alongside assigned crew members.
• Review daily schedules, work orders, and project requirements before beginning work.
• Assign tasks and coordinate crew activities to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
• Complete assigned work within estimated labor hours while maintaining quality standards.
• Monitor crew performance and provide coaching, direction, and corrective feedback.
• Communicate staffing, production, and scheduling concerns to management.
• Ensure crew members follow company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

Landscape Maintenance

• Oversee and perform commercial mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, and routine landscape maintenance.
• Perform pruning, bed maintenance, weed control, seasonal cleanups, and other assigned maintenance services.
• Maintain consistent quality across assigned properties and inspect work before leaving each site.
• Identify property concerns, damage, and additional service needs and report them to management.

Landscape Enhancements

• Lead and perform landscape installation and improvement projects, including planting, mulching, bed renovations, sod installation, grading, and landscape tear-outs.
• Read and follow work orders, landscape plans, and project specifications.
• Coordinate materials, equipment, and labor to complete projects efficiently.
• Ensure proper installation techniques and maintain a clean, organized job site.
• Monitor project progress and communicate changes, delays, or material needs to management.

Safety, Equipment & Fleet

• Operate company trucks, trailers, commercial mowers, skid steers, and other landscape equipment as qualified and assigned.
• Conduct required daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
• Ensure equipment is operated safely and maintained in proper working condition.
• Report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment immediately.
• Follow company safety procedures, including proper PPE, safe equipment operation, and vehicle/trailer practices.
• Maintain clean and organized trucks, trailers, and equipment.

Documentation & Communication

• Accurately complete daily timekeeping, service reports, and required job documentation.
• Record actual labor hours and communicate production results.
• Report incidents, property damage, customer concerns, and quality issues promptly.
• Communicate professionally with management, crew members, customers, and the public.
• Complete end-of-day procedures to ensure vehicles, equipment, and materials are ready for the next workday.

Snow & Ice Operations

• Participate in winter snow and ice management operations as assigned.
• Operate snow removal equipment and perform plowing, salting, or related services based on qualifications.
• Maintain availability for weather-dependent operations, including nights, weekends, and holidays when required.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Landscape Crew Leader, Foreman, or equivalent hands-on leadership role.
• Experience in commercial landscape maintenance, landscape enhancements, or landscape construction.
• Ability to lead a crew, delegate tasks, and maintain production and quality standards.
• Knowledge of commercial landscape equipment and proper operating procedures.
• Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a company truck and trailer.
• Ability to read and understand work orders and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work extended hours during peak season.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in both maintenance and enhancement operations.
• Experience reading landscape plans and coordinating materials.
• Skid steer or compact equipment experience.
• Knowledge of plant materials, installation methods, and landscape maintenance practices.
• Snow and ice management experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and operating outdoor power equipment. Employees must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment as required by the job, work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions, and safely perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
