RN Med-Surg Acute Care

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) Acute Care/Med-Surg Adult is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients in an acute care and observation unit setting. Utilizing specialized knowledge in critical disease states, the RN plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates patient care through the nursing process. This role requires strong clinical expertise, effective communication, and collaboration within the healthcare team to support patients with acute and chronic illnesses. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients in the Med-Surg acute care and observation unit.
• Assess patient conditions and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor patient progress and respond to changes in condition promptly.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Document patient care activities and maintain accurate medical records.
• Participate in patient and family education regarding care plans and health management.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Engage in continuous professional development and maintain clinical competencies.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Colorado.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in Acute Care, Medical-Surgical, or Telemetry nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current Influenza vaccination with no exemptions.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Experience with orthopedic surgery patients and hybrid cath lab procedures.
• Familiarity with acute and chronic disease management in a hospital setting.

Special Considerations:

• Must agree to participate in call rotation, taking one call shift every two weeks as scheduled.
• Work environment includes acute care hospital setting with a growing census due to orthopedic and cardiac procedures.
• Compliance with hospital vaccination policies, including mandatory flu vaccine by November 1.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour day shifts including weekend rotations.
• Shift schedule includes call shifts replacing guaranteed hours during the call week.
