Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically necessary. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans, explaining procedures and treatments to patients while providing education upon discharge. The role involves operating various ventilatory and aerosol equipment to administer medications, and performing chest physiotherapy, suctioning, and monitoring of patients as per policy. The Respiratory Therapist engages in tasks including reviewing chest x-rays, conducting pulmonary function studies, assisting in respiratory-related procedures, and carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct evaluations and develop treatment plans for patients.
• Explain treatment procedures and educate patients and families.
• Perform routine breathing treatments using ventilatory and aerosol devices.
• Conduct chest physiotherapy and suctioning procedures.
• Monitor patient responses to treatments and document accordingly.
• Assist in respiratory care procedures, including bronchoscopy and tracheostomy care.
• Maintain and operate mechanical ventilation equipment.
• Conduct arterial punctures and interpret test results.
• Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding patient care.
• Accurate record-keeping related to treatments and billing.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Respiratory Therapist license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Prior experience in respiratory care is preferred.
